I will complete a review of MacLoggerDX in future posts, but for now I thought I would explain my rationale of making the switch. MacLoggerDX logs into your favourite telnet or TNC DXCluster and as DX Spots are received, tunes your radio to the spot, looks up the call and displays the DX station on the Greyline Map. Following up on the Christmas-time release of Version 6.0, Dog Park Software has released version 6.01 of MacLoggerDX. And on the odd occasion I did venture into digital modes. Its not HRD, its not an all in one solution, its a log book that can use the radios VFO, the rotor and DX cluster all together. So the solution ? well its not a solution to be fair. MacLoggerDX supports close to a hundred radios, automatically tuning to the spots you are interested in, swinging your beam around. Features include: Organizing and filtering the spots from your favourite DX Cluster for DXing, casual Contesting or rag-chewing. It’s a combination of all the elements tethered together that makes the experience unusable. MacLoggerDX is The Mac Ham Radio Logbook choice in 120 countries. MacLoggerDX can also email you when the Bands are open or that rare DX is spotted. MacLoggerDX supports close to a hundred radios, automatically tuning to the spots you are interested in, swinging your beam around. Mac Logger DX Alerting you to rare contacts or Band Openings and looking up, displaying on 2D, 3D and Satellite Maps and logging your contacts to a super fast sql database. Its not the fault of HRD, nor is it the fault of the Virtual Machine, The RS-232 - USB connectors. MacLoggerDX is The Mac Ham Radio Logbook choice in 120 countries. HRD over a Virtual Machine, using RS-232 connectors is unpredictable, slow and frankly unusable. MacLoggerDX supports close to a hundred radios, (including all recent models like Kenwood TS-990s, TS-590s and Yaesu FTdx1200, FTdx3000) automatically tuning to. I transitioned from PC to Mac around 3 years ago, and have been using a Virtual PC to do my PC based tasks (including my day job) and this is the issue. MacLoggerDX is the Total Mac Ham Radio Assistant and premier Mac logger: Organizing and filtering the spots from your favourite DX Cluster for DXing, Contesting or casual rag-chewing. This I completely agree with, and my time using HRD was always a great experience and I would recommend the software to anyone.

Amongst the re-tweets and comments i received, Danny (PA3DM) did mention that HRD is not just a logbook, but a full suite of digital modes, rotor and a rig control system. I recently tweeted that I had dropped Ham Radio Deluxe in favour for MacLoggerDX.
